Last week the Lehman Catholic High School cheerleaders completed their 2021 camp. The girls worked hard to learn multiple new cheers, chants, band dances, a floor dance, and perfect the classic fight song. On top of this, the girls worked on kicks, jumps, and tumbling with a few girls perfecting new skills that they never thought they could before. None of this would have been accomplishable without the help of Sherry Shoemaker (retired Anna cheer coach), Hannah Shoemaker (BGSU cheerleader), Rachel Shoemaker (OSU all-girl competition cheerleader), and the gymnastic coaches at the Sidney YMCA.

Sherry brought a new love for the sport to our girls this past week helping them perfect their motions, work on making their voices strong, and giving them insight into how to increase school spirit and participation at games. She was a real light during camp and really helped the girls realize how important cheerleading is to a school. We hope to invite her back throughout the coming years to continue in helping grow the LCHS cheerleading program and the love for the sport.

To finish camp up, the girls were able to showcase their skills to their parents on Saturday, July 24th. They demonstrated the fight song, a new defense and offense cheer, and a new secret dance they hope to show the Lehman Community at one of the upcoming football or basketball games. In addition to showing skills, coaches Emily Reinhart and Alexis Kreusch also presented awards to the girls who demonstrated growth and leadership throughout camp.

Sophomore Daria Lee was awarded the best jump awards for both her toe touch and her hurdler. Juniors Lilly Williams and Sarah Lins were co-winners for the most spirited award, showing their growth from last year in their voices and smiles as well as taking on the roles of fundraising and community service leaders for the team. Freshman Elizabeth Exley was awarded most improved from tryouts to the end of camp. Sophomore Leah Zimmerman was awarded the gold star award for her ability to pick up on material so quickly. Finally, Senior Annie Stiver was awarded the leadership award for being both the voice of the team when and when not cheering. Madi Gleason was also awarded for leadership by being the main demonstrator of skills and taking moments to prove that hard work pays off.

Lehman Cheerleaders would like to thank all parents who donated to camp this year to make it an amazing experience.
