LEHMAN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM COMPETES

The Lehman Catholic Science Olympiad team recently competed in two invitationals. This year's team consists of 15 students, in grades 9 - 12.

Lehman Catholic’s team placed 28th at the Centerville Invitational held on December 17, 2022. The event was virtual and 36 teams from across the USA participated. Lehman’s highest placings: 

  • David Brunner and Thomas Schmiesing – Wifi, 12th place
  • Thomas Schmiesing, O’Keefe Cooper, and Calvin Linson – Codebusters, 19th place
Lehman Catholic’s team placed 13th at the Northmont Invitational held on January 14, 2023. The event was in-person, the first in-person competition since March 2020, and 20 teams from across Ohio participated. Lehman’s highest placings: 

  • Mark Moloney and Mara O’Leary – Dynamic Planet, 7th place
  • O’Keefe Cooper and Emma Largent – Trajectory, 8th place
  • Ryan Armstrong and Connor Stephenson – Cell Biology, 9th place
  • David Brunner and Emma Largent – Detector Building, 9th place
  • O’Keefe Cooper and Jack Meyer – Fermi Questions, 9th place
  • Thomas Schmiesing and Emilee VanSkiver – Forestry, 9th place

Lehman Catholic Science Olympiad program is coordinated by Sister Ginny Scherer. Olympiad coaches who graciously volunteer their time are Tracy Hall, Tom Frantz, Jim Hemm, Tom Largent, Michael Largent, Scott Streng, Kim Wenning, and Steve Wenning.

Along with the Lehman Catholic Science Department, grants from the Miami County Foundation, Sidney-Shelby County Foundation, and Sister Elise help to fund this year’s Science Olympiad program.

The team will next participate in the Regionals on March 18, 2023, at Piqua High School.
