Sophia Magoteaux, Daria Lee, Mr. Sanford, Ryan Armstrong, and Luke Peoples

The following students were selected by the faculty for their responsibility, connectedness with others, kindness, positivity, flexibility, commitment to living the Lehman values, and being role models to others because of their character and continued growth and perseverance.

Senior: Ryan Armstrong | Ryan is a great role model. He works hard and encourages many underclassmen. He sets a great example for our younger students on what it means to be a Cavalier and how to navigate your senior year. He is also doing a great job as the stage manager for the musical. This is his fourth year in this role and he does a great job leading his fellow students. Ryan is very helpful to me and always comes in smiling. He is always jumping in to help me in our busy homeroom if I need it. Nominators: Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Galbreath

Junior: Daria Lee | Daria is kind-hearted, friendly, and respectful. She gives her best in the classroom and on the sidelines as she stirs up some school spirit. She can lead us all in the Cavalier rumble, and she courageously lives each day with her faith and a smile despite the rumbles life has thrown her way. Along with her consistently excellent essays, Daria's positive and enthusiastic approach to classwork and discussion help contribute to a cheerful bonhomie in our English classroom, she is definitely deserving of rockstar recognition! Nominators: Ms. Homan, Mr. Sanford, and Mrs. Hall

Sophomore: Sophia Magoteaux | This student consistently leads by example whether it's in the classroom or along the sidelines at athletic events. Her locker sign has the words of St. Catherine of Siena: "Be who you were made to be, and you will set the world on fire." She certainly is well on her way as she lives her values and uses her wisdom, which is what the name "Sophia" means. Nominator: Ms. Homan

Freshman: Luke Peoples | Luke works very hard and is very conscious of his work. He will ask questions and wants to understand. He works well with others and never hesitates when I ask him a question or to help me, he is always ready. I admire him for his hard work. It doesn't go unnoticed! Nominator: Mrs. Hall

Congratulations to Mr. Zach Sanford for being recognized by his students! Here's what they had to say ...

"I chose to nominate Mr. Sanford because of how kind and encouraging he is. I don't have an actual class with him but this semester he became my study hall monitor. He helped me memorize my poem for English and was overall very helpful. He is very funny and keeps me entertained in my study hall."

"At the beginning of the year, I was worried about my new English teacher. All I knew was that he was a sports professor, and had never taught high school English before. When we walked into class for the first time and Mr. Sanford started speaking in bouts of old English, telling us to "make haste!" I was unsure how the year would progress. Mr. Sanford blew our expectations out of the water, however. Mr. Sanford is one of the best people I know. He truly cares for the well-being of his students. He is always seeking to help students further their literature knowledge and expand their vocabularies. He is by far one of the funniest teachers I know. He is like a wise owl: what he says may not always make sense, but it definitely contains value and education. Mr. Sanford is not afraid to push students out of their comfort zones and increase their Language and Literature knowledge. There is never a dull moment in Mr. Sanford's English class. Oftentimes, there is more laughter than silence. I can say with confidence that Mr. Sanford has impacted the lives of myself and others in a compellingly positive way. I truly believe I have grown and become a better person under his influence." "I have nominated this teacher as the January hero of the month because I have learned so much in just one semester and he always strives to make our classroom setting engaging and interesting. There is never a day when I am in his class when I am not laughing about some remark that he says. I always look forward to his class at the end of the day because he never ceases to make us all laugh, and it is the one class that I don't count down the minutes till it's over. We all have learned so much from him and have drastically improved our writing, and this is by far one of the best teachers I have had. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my assignments with him this school year, and I can't wait for this next semester and for my senior year. He has truly been a blessing to Lehman and my junior English class. So hopefully we can "make haste" to choose Mr. Sanford as our February hero of the month!

Congratulations, Cavaliers!
