Lehman Catholic High School |
|
While many of today’s teens engage in Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social networking phenomenon, grandparents often question what happened to yesteryear when handwritten letters were the norm vs. emails and rotary phones were the precursor to cell phones. Times are changing and nowhere is it more evident than Lehman Catholic High School. Educational advances and new teaching tools have replaced what was considered normal in the 1950s and 60s. Technological advances are enabling students to perform a myriad amount of school-related work. Whether sourcing information on Yahoo to write a paper or gleaning historical information on a DVD, today’s teens are information savvy and equipped to test the collegial waters after graduation. In an effort to “bridge the generation gap” and promote Catholic education, Lehman has set aside a day to give thanks to grandparents and/or other older adults who have influenced or impacted students’ lives. The second annual Generation Day on Friday, April 23, is an opportunity for adults to learn more about the Lehman experience and perhaps impart some knowledge about their high school days to today’s teens. Last year’s response demonstrated a need for us to set aside time for older adults to hear the Lehman story from Principal Denise Stauffer, attend Mass with their grandchildren, visit classes and tour Lehman’s fabulous facility. And, best of all, everyone took a walk down memory lane when the cafeteria workers served up grilled cheese sandwiches and ladles of hot tomato soup. During Mass, the Rev. Patrick Sloneker, former chaplain, engaged grandparents and their teenagers in a popular Baltimore catechism quiz while Sister Ginny Scherer, S.C. introduced them to science and Art Teacher Marcia Maas and her students pursued drawing and ceramic projects. This year’s Generation Day will kick off with a “gathering” –including coffee and donuts- in the Mark Wurm gym from 9 to 10 a.m. This will be followed by Mass and school tour with younger students. The day will conclude with a complimentary noon meal of “comfort food” and a live performance by the Lehman Limelighters. Mark your calendar now for April 23rd when we attempt to “bridge the gap” and showcase the Lehman experience. To reserve a spot, please contact Sharon Semanie at (937) 498-1161/773-8747, ext. 126 or send an email to s.semanie@lehmancatholic.com. Reservations are due April 14th. May God’s blessings
me yours this season!
