Prospective Parent Question:

My child has always gotten average grades. I know that she can do better and needs to improve in order to get into a good college. How do faculty like you motivate students to excel in their studies?

Faculty Answer: (Mrs. DeLong)

I believe that the best motivation is inherent motivation. External praise for a job well done can help bolster a student's self esteem, but only when a student truly feels confident in himself or herself can he or she be motivated to do great things. As a teacher, I am sure to point out any and all strengths I see in each student in their assignments, interactions with peers and adults, and classroom discussion. Every student has individual attributes to be proud of, and it is our job to help them recognize their strengths and build that inherent motivation necessary for success.

Prospective Parent Question:

I don't necessarily agree with the thinking that test scores mean everything, but I do see them as important when measuring the academic success of a high school. Can you comment on how Lehman students perform on both the Ohio Graduate Test and the ACT/SAT?

Faculty Answer (Mrs. Saluke):

Every year Lehman students perform extremely well on the OGT, the ACT and SAT. Regarding the OGT, a majority of our students not only achieve a "proficient" level on the test, but also exceed that level with "accelerated" and "advanced" scores. As a whole, Lehman students also exceed the state and national averages on both ACT and SAT by a significant margin. These outstanding test scores are a direct result of a number of things - from the solid work ethic of the students to an enriched curriculum and rigorous academic preparation promoted by the staff to the help and support of the parents. The excellent test scores enable our students to consider many outstanding college opportunities and put them in the running for many scholarship opportunities.

Prospective Student Question:

I don't like to sit and just be lectured to in the classroom. I learn better when the teacher makes the class more interactive. Can you tell me what I can expect from the faculty at Lehman?

Faculty Answer: (Mrs. Hall)

At Lehman you can expect a quality and gifted education by receiving a variety of teaching methods from our faculty. Our teachers teach to a diversity of students and we realize each of you learn differently. The teachers at Lehman offer a variety of "hands-on" learning activities and projects into their lessons to get each student involved in their own learning process. As a teacher, it is important for my students to have fun and feel comfortable in my classroom because I want each of you to be an active part in the learning process.
