Named Scholarship Opportunities

 
Generosity has always been a distinguishing quality of the Lehman Catholic High School Community. Recently, several Alumni have initiated a process that exemplifies the mission of our school, “To guide students to discover, embrace and utilize their gifts and talents for the glory of God and service to others”. These named scholarships are ways, in which, the Lehman community is helping to make tuition affordable for our families.
 
 

Learn, Live, Love LEHMAN Scholarship

 

The Learn, Live, Love, LEHMAN Scholarship has been established to encourage students to choose Catholic education at Lehman High School. All students (incoming Freshmen through Senior) are eligible to apply. Individual scholarships will be awarded as a tuition credit in the amount of $500 to $1,500.

The deadline for the application is April 30th. Scholarships will be awarded by June 15th  and will be applied to the next school year’s tuition. Please use the Lehman Common Scholarship Application found below to apply for this scholarship can be obtained by contacting the front office at Lehman Catholic High School.



The Clifton Alexander Scholarship

 

 
This scholarship was established in the memory of Clifton Alexander by his father, John Alexander. Clifton was a 2005 graduate of Lehman High School. He had a vibrant Cavalier personality and was involved in all aspects of the school. He was an active participant in the Lehman music department, a member of the band, Limelighters, and musical casts. Clifton was also a member of the Tennis Team and Swim/Dive Team. This scholarship was established to keep Clifton's memory alive and the positive impact he had on Lehman and to gift that same opportunity to future Cavaliers. This scholarship is $1000 and renewable for three years dependent on the academic standing of the recipient. This scholarship is open to current 8th grade students from either Piqua Parish who will attending LCHS.

The deadline for the application is April 30th. Scholarships will be awarded by June 15th and applied to next year's tuition. Use the Lehman common scholarship application to apply.

The Edward and Betty Carity Scholarship

 

 
Edward and Betty Carity were life-long members of Holy Angels Church where they were married in 1947. They both devoted their lives to service; military, local law enforcement, and volunteering. They had 2 daughters, one graduated from Holy Angels HS and the other from Lehman. Edward and Betty were avid Holy Angels and then Lehman sports fans; they attended nearly every football, basketball, and volleyball game until they became "Winter Texans". This scholarship was established to benefit any student attending Lehman Catholic High School who would otherwise not be able to afford a Catholic high school education.

All students are eligible to apply. The deadline for the application in April 30th, a $1000 scholarship will be awarded by June 15th. Please use the common application to apply.

The Carol Wesbecher Covault '56 Scholarship

 

 
To perpetuate the memory of their mother, Carol Wesbecher Covault, the Philip Gilardi Family established this scholarship in her name. In addition to being a graduate of Holy Angels High School, the parent of five Lehman graduates, and the grandmother of three Lehman grads, Carol worked tirelessly as a volunteer to support the school.

All students who are incoming freshmen through seniors are encouraged to apply. This scholarship will be awarded based upon citizenship, character, and need. In the event all candidates are evenly matched participation in baseball and/or vocal music will be used as deciding factors. The deadline for the application is April 30th. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by June 15th and will be applied to the next school year’s tuition. Please use the common application to apply.

The Richard and Harriet Frantz Scholarship


In the honor of our parents, the Frantz family has established the Richard and Harriet Frantz Scholarship Fund. Catholic Education has always been a cornerstone of their family’s values and the family appreciate the sacrifices and the blessings that their parents provided by sending them to a Catholic School. In addition to being the parents of thirteen Lehman and Holy Angels graduates, Richard Frantz was one of the original signers of the documents that created Lehman Catholic High School. Harriet worked to establish swimming and diving as a varsity sport at Lehman Catholic, and coached the team for many years.

The scholarship will be awarded based upon academic participation and good standing, citizenship, character, and need. The school’s administrative team will make the selection of the recipient(s). In the event candidates are, in the view of the panel, evenly matched for the scholarship, then participation in scouting, participation in their Catholic Church, positive effort in the classroom, and community service can be used as deciding factors.

All students who are incoming freshmen through seniors are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to financial need and incoming freshmen or students entering their first year at Lehman Catholic High School. The deadline for the application is April 30th. Scholarships will be awarded by June 15th and will be applied to the next school year’s tuition. Scholarship(s) will range from $500 to $1000. The Celestin Gigandet High School Scholarship

 

 
The Celestin Gigandet Scholarship was initiated by the Gigandet Family, whose legacy in education spans more than a century of Shelby County history. Their dedication to education has insured that students wishing to attend Lehman Catholic High School have that opportunity. These scholarships will be awarded based on community activities and service, and financial need.

Frank A. Gilardi and Julie L. (Ratermann) Gilardi Scholarship


Another Lehman family has also taken the lead in assisting students and advancing the affordability of a Lehman Catholic education. Frank A. Gilardi Jr. (LCHS ’76) and Julie L. (Raterman) Gilardi (LCHS ’76) announced their family’s inaugural scholarship three years ago. The Frank A. Gilardi & Julie L. (Raterman) Gilardi Scholarship(s) are funded through an endowment that will perpetually provide scholarships for Lehman Catholic students. Frank and Julie both have a desire to encourage the culture of giving that exists at Lehman Catholic. They saw an opportunity to encourage others through their own generosity by giving back to the school that has given their family so much. Frank and Julie are 1976 graduates of Lehman and are making available funds for up to five scholarships in the amounts of $1000-$2500. These scholarships will be awarded to students attending Lehman Catholic High School. Priority will also be given to incoming freshmen and new students to Lehman.

The scholarship will be awarded based upon financial need, academic standing, citizenship, and character. All applications must be submitted to Lehman Catholic High School by April 30th. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by June 15th. Please use the Lehman common scholarship application to apply. 

The James and Jean Hartzell Family Scholarship


In an effort to show his support to Lehman High School, James (Jim) Hartzell established the James and Jean Hartzell Scholarship to be applied toward tuition at Lehman Catholic High School. Jim was a former president of the Lehman Foundation Board and has supported the Lehman community for a number of years.

The Hartzell Family Scholarship has been established for students who will attend Lehman Catholic High School. It is the Hartzell family’s intention to help families from the area to attend Lehman Catholic and to assist those who feel that the cost of a Lehman Catholic education may be unattainable for economic reasons.

All students who are incoming freshmen through seniors are encouraged to apply. The application process will begin when registration for the next school year begins (usually in February). The deadline for the application is April 30th. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by June 15th and will be applied to the next school year’s tuition. The Tom Jordan Scholarship


In honor and memory of her husband and their father, the Jordan family has established the Tom Jordan Scholarship. In addition to being the parent of several Piqua Catholic and Lehman graduates, Tom Jordan was also a loyal employee of Lehman Catholic High School for 10 years and received an Honorary Diploma from Lehman in 1992. A Catholic Education has always been a cornerstone of the Jordan family’s values and Tom cherished his time spent at Lehman as their head custodian. The scholarship will be awarded based on financial need and participation in extra-curricular activities.
In order to be considered for this scholarship, a student must be an incoming freshman at Lehman, who is currently attending Piqua Catholic School. This $1000 scholarship is renewable for three years dependent on the academic standing of the recipient.The deadline for the application is April 30th. The scholarship will be awarded by June 15th and will be applied to the next school year’s tuition.  Please use the common application to apply.  

The Patrick Pudlewski Memorial Scholarship

 

In an effort to keep Patrick’s memory alive, the Patrick Pudlewski Memorial Scholarship was established to assist a deserving Lehman student with their tuition costs. Patrick, a member of the class of 2014, lost his life in an automobile accident in April of 2013. Patrick was a very active member of the Lehman Community. This scholarship will be awarded to a Lehman Junior or Senior that has made positive contributions to the school and greater community, through involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. School attendance will also be used as a deciding factor.
The deadline for the application is April 30th. Scholarships will be awarded by June 15th and will be applied to the next school year’s tuition. Scholarship(s) will range from $500 to $1000.  Please use the common application to apply.

The Scott Family Scholarship


Benny (Lehman graduate ’89) and Stacy Scott share a passion for Catholic Education and have been supporters of Piqua Catholic and Lehman Catholic High School for years. To assure that a Catholic Education is an option for families in their community, they have established the Scott Family Scholarship,  which will be awarded to one or two students from Piqua.

The scholarship will be awarded primarily based on student character and financial need. It is targeted towards families with financial need that may choose otherwise not to send students to Lehman without this additional help. Students should have a hard work ethic and active in extracurricular and service activities. They should also be in good academic standing.

All students who are incoming freshmen through seniors are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to financial need and incoming freshmen or students entering their first year at Lehman Catholic High School. The deadline for the application is April 30th. Scholarships will be awarded by June 15th and will be applied to the next school year’s tuition. The scholarship(s) will be awarded at the discretion of Benny and Stacy Scott with the advisement of the school’s principal/chief executive officer. The Dennis and Rita Sollmann Family Scholarship


This scholarship was established to honor Dennis and Rita Sollmann by their children for all they have done for Holy Angels and Lehman Catholic Schools over the past 35 years. They are strong supporters of Catholic Education and want to reward a deserving student and their family for their hard work and success while attending Holy Angels School.

The scholarship will be awarded to an 8th grade student at Holy Angels that will be attending Lehman Catholic High School in the fall. A $1000 scholarship will be awarded by June 15th and will be applied to the next school year's tuition. The scholarship will be based on the student's church activities, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and need. The student must be in good standing with Holy Angels School. The Ann Vondenhuevel Scholarship


In honor and memory of his wife and their mother, the Vondenhuevel family has established the Ann Vondenhuevel Scholarship. Ann (Frantz) Vondenhuevel was a graduate from Lehman in 1981 and lost her battle with cancer in 2011. Catholic Education has always been a cornerstone of the Vondenhuevel family and the Ann Vondenhuevel Scholarship was established to help other families have this opportunity for a Lehman Catholic Education.

All students who are incoming freshmen through seniors are encouraged to apply. The scholarship will be awarded to someone who really desires to attend Lehman and is based upon merit, character, and need. The deadline for the application is April 30th. The Lehman Catholic High School Alumni Association Scholarship(s)


The Alumni Association awards 3 one time $750 scholarships to deserving incoming Lehman Catholic freshmen. The number of scholarships available may vary from year to year depending on available funds.

In order to be considered for this scholarship, a student must be an incoming freshman currently attending Sidney Holy Angels, Piqua Catholic, St. Mary’s (Greenville), St. Patrick’s or Holy Rosary (St. Marys) schools. These scholarships will be granted to students based on their GPA, school activities, parish involvement, interests and essay responses.  Please see the Alumni Scholarship Application below. Applications are provided by each school, as well, and scholarships will be awarded at their eighth grade graduation ceremonies. The deadline for this application is April 30th.  All applications should be sent to Lehman Catholic High School.  For more information, contact Lehman Principal/CEO, Denise Stauffer, or Guidance Director, Kim Koverman.

Ronald S. Francis Scholarship


Ronald S. Francis (HAHS ’53) and his wife Patricia are staunch supporters of Lehman and Catholic education in general. That spirit lives on in their children: Lynne Springer, Tara Adams (LCHS ’81), Lance Francis (LCHS ’83), Glen Francis (LCHS ’84) and Tisha Huth (LCHS ’87). Ron and Pat’s children came up with the idea of The Ronald S. Francis Scholarship to support Lehman and to honor their father with a gift that keeps on giving.

This scholarship is available to any student of Holy Angels Catholic School. Criteria include the number of children in the family, the number enrolled in Catholic school or college and responses to essays questions. The Francis family awards a $1000 scholarship to a student from Holy Angels. The family has awarded this scholarship for the past several years. Their creative thinking has taken a common problem and solved not only their situation, but created opportunity to make a Lehman education more affordable for students and their families.

Please use the application below, the one found in the registration folder or you may get one from Holy Angels School during the enrollment process for high school. It is awarded at the eighth grade graduation ceremony by the Francis family. Ken and Brenda Schlater Family Scholarship


Ken and Brenda Schlater both graduated from Holy Angels elementary and Holy Angels (’66) high school in Sidney, Ohio. Their children attended Lehman Catholic High School, formed from the merging of Holy Angels and Piqua Catholic High Schools. Ken and Brenda share a passion for Catholic Education. They have been instrumental in assuring Catholic Education is an option for families in the Sidney Community and surrounding area of Shelby County.

As a tribute to Ken and Brenda Schlater, a scholarship was established by their daughters for the purpose of providing assistance to young men and women who graduate from Holy Angels and will be attending Lehman Catholic High School. A scholarship in the amount of $750 to $1000 will be awarded annually and is available to any eighth grade student graduating from Holy Angels School. The Dorothy Bliel Richi Memorial Scholarship

  
As an act of devotion to his wife of 63 years Mr. Ben Richi has generously set up a scholarship for any 9th - 12th grader attending Lehman Catholic High School from St. Patrick Catholic School.  Ben Richi was married to Dorothy Bliel Richi for 63 years. His devotion and love for her are a clear example of how Christ wants us to love each other.  It is Mr. Richi's intention to encourage the continuation of Catholic education from elementary to high school.
 
All incoming freshmen through seniors who attended St. Patrick Catholic School are encouraged to apply. For the 2017-2018 school year, we will be accepting applications until April 30th.  The scholarship will be awarded by May 15th.  Scholarships will range from $500 to $1,500.
