Academic Tracks

To ensure that the proper course of study is being followed regarding post-secondary plans, and to ensure that the proper numbers of credits are accomplished, the total curriculum offered is divided into three core programs or pathways. Those cores are: Advanced College Preparatory, College Preparatory and Career Studies. Failure to adhere to these guidelines can impact the prospects of a student to graduate on schedule.

The Advanced College Preparatory core program is for a student who wishes the highest academic preparation. This program includes advanced coursework in English, Science, Math and Foreign Language. Accelerated freshmen may take Biology with the following pre-requisites:

The pre-requisites are successful completion of Algebra I; high percentile science score on standardized test; high eighth grade science grade; recommendation by the eighth grade science teacher; and approval of LCHS Science Department Chair. This track only allows for 1 elective per year.

The College Preparatory core program is what its name implies, a basic preparatory track for the college bound. Not as intense as the Advanced College Preparatory track, it allows the student more leeway in choosing academic electives. This program includes additional coursework in Science and Math.

The Career Studies core program is an excellent preparation for the student who wishes a general education, who is interested in entering a career field following high school, entering the JVS program, or additional one or two-year programs in a junior college, trade or technical school. Certain courses might lend themselves to the college bound, depending upon their choice of college major.

A four-year development of these three pathways is outlined on the following pages. Each student will be expected to be enrolled in a minimum of fourteen class mods of an eighteen mod day. Courses may be dropped due to insufficient enrollment. However, state mandated courses will be offered.

** Courses/information in Curriculum Handbook is subject to change, based on student enrollment requests, numbers and AOC/State mandated requirements.
